L.I.F.T. PROGRAM

Statement of Purpose

It is the purpose of the L.I.F.T. (Life Skills & Independence for Teens) Program to fulfil it's community mandate by assisting teens in the North Simcoe, that need support to develop the attitudes and skills necessary to help them prepare for their future independence.

Organizational Beliefs

1. We believe in order to achieve independence; every adolescent needs to develop an awareness of, and skills in relating to, self, family, community, vocation and education.

2.When required, every adolescent should have the opportunity to develop the necessary lifeskills to establish themselves in an independent living situation.

3. We believe the these lifeskills ideally should be provided within the family unit. However, some adolescents may require additional support to effectively achieve these skills

4. We believe we are accountable to our community and to our finding bodies for the service we provide to adolescents and planning activities as a means of achieving higher quality services.

5. We believe that adolescents should take an active role in identifying the type of life skills they need.

6. L.I.F.T. will provide a supportive environment for adolescents in order to help them in their transition towards independence.
